Seat Nostrum. Ha sido mi proyecto personal realizado durante mis prácticas en el Centro de Diseño de Seat en Martorell, Barcelona.

Seat Nostrum. It was the personal project I did during my internship in the Seat Design Centre in Martorell, Barcelona.

El proyecto surgió como un reto en el que convertir los valores más representativos y diferenciadores de Seat en un automóvil original, con un toque divertido y emocionante. 

Primero había que identificar cuáles eran esos valores y traducirlos a imágenes y sensaciones. Los seleccionados fueron "diversión", "innovación" y "espíritu mediterráneo". Pero ¿qué es eso del espíritu mediterráneo? Es una forma de afrontar la vida típica del sur de Europa: abierta, alegre, con una gastronomía y arquitectura similares y con una relación muy especial con el mar. Mirando siempre a la costa, trasladando a tierra las sensaciones y actividades que el mar nos da y viceversa. Imitando actividades deportivas y disfrutando de la playa como el nexo de unión entre los dos elementos. Esas iban a ser las claves del proyecto.

Tras esto, los objetivos que debía cumplir mi proyecto aparecieron por sí mismos. Debía ser un vehículo que uniera el mar y la tierra, con capacidad para ir por las playas y arenales fácilmente y que fuera alegre, ligero y divertido.

The project was born as a challenge to transfer the most meaningful and differenciating principles of Seat to an original and exciting automobile.

First of all, I should identify those principles and translate them into images and feelings. They were 'fun', 'innovation' and 'mediterranean spirit'. However, what does 'mediterranean spirit' mean?  It's a way of living common in the south of Europe: open-minded, cheerful, with a shared gastronomy and architecture and the sensation of being linked to the sea in a special way. Always looking at the coast, combining land and sea activities -such sports- and enjoying the beach. These were the basics of my project.

After that, the goals of my project appeared by themselves. It should be a vehicle to mix sea and land, with offroad capabilities to drive through the sand and it should be something fun, light and exciting!

La solución que finalmente adopté fue la de hacer un automóvil de arquitectura 1+1 ocupantes y dividido en dos partes: un chasis en el que situar los asientos y la estructura principal del coche y una parte desmontable que pudiera introducirse en el mar: el jetski. Un vehículo muy ligero (casi un buggy), que reflejara en sus formas la sinuosidad del mar y las ganas de divertirse. 
Al actuar como coche debía conservar las sensaciones que hacen del jetski algo especial: la utilización del basculante en la dirección, notar el viento y los elementos externos directamente en la cara y el poder trasladar el "saltar olas" del mar al "saltar dunas" en tierra.

Finally I designed a 1+1 passengers car divided in two parts: the chassis -where is the main structure and the seats- and a removable part to put into the sea: the jetski. It's a very light vehicle -almost a buggy- that reminds the curves of the sea and the mood to have fun.
As a car, it preserves the unique feelings of riding a jetski: the tilting steering column, feeling the wind and the elements directly in your face and having the possibility to 'jumping dunes' in the land instead of 'jumping waves' in the sea.

Final design: 1+1 passengers car divided in two parts: the chassis -where is the main structure and the seats- and the jetski. 

As a car, it preserves the unique feelings of driving a jetski: the tilting steering column, feeling the elements directly in your face and having the possibility of 'jumping dunes' in the land instead of 'jumping waves' in the sea.
